Human iPSC-Derived Astrocytes

Astrocytes are a sub-type of glial cells in the central nervous system. The astrocytes are star-shaped cells with narrow cell body and variable number of processes. Astrocytes regulate synaptic transmission, blood-brain-barrier permability, neuronal metabolism and immunohomeostasis by interacting with other cells in the central nervous system, including microglia and neuron.

The human astrocytes are generated from human iPSC-derived Neural Stem Cells, using astrocytes.
The human iPSC-derived astrocytes express glial-fibrillary acidic protein (GFAP), S100b, Aldehyde dehydrogenase family member 1 L1 (Aldh1 L1), excitatory amino acid transporter 1 (EAAT1) and Aquaporin-4. Our in vitro generated astrocytes enable experiments with control or patient-derived c patient-derived cells are valuable tools for developing therapeutic drugs and disease modeling, while the easy handling makes it an excellent tool also for models under different mono- or co-culture settings.
